Funeral Rites Are Held Saturday For Brother Of Mrs. Iva Mummey
Benjamin F. Benton, 72, a brother of Mrs. Iva Mummey, passed away last Wednesday at 3:40 p.m. in Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine. Mr. Benton had been in failing health several years and had entered the hospital the day prior to his death for medical treatment. His condition had been considered serious since April.
A contractor-carpenter, he was born October 18, 1887, in Hardin County, a son of Alvin and Kate Maberry-Benton.
Survivors include two sons, Captain Arthur Benton, stationed in Washington, D.. C. with the U. S Army and Benjamin F. Benton, Jr. of Columbus; two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Juanita) Hollis of Bellefontaine, with whom the deceased resided and Mary Ann Benton, student at Malone College, Canton, presently in Bellefontaine; 13 grandchildren; and the sister, Mrs. Mummey.
His wife, Marian Pratt-Benton, died January 10, 1947 and his eldest son, Donald, on March 11, 1959.
The Rev. Harold Wyandt, pastor of the First Friends Church in Bellefontaine, conducted the final rites Saturday in the Kennedy Funeral Home in the county seat. Burial was made in the Belle Center-Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers included Glenn, Walter and W. Edward Pash, Tom Hollis, Amos Amerine, Jr. and W. Frank Wallace.

Rites Are Held Monday For Bellefontaine Woman; Burial Mad in Fairview Cemetery
Funeral services were held in the Kennedy funeral home, Bellefontaine, Monday afternoon at two o'clock for Mrs. Ben Benton, 42, Rev. Forrest Ashcraft, substitute pastor at the Church of God, officiated and burial was made in the Belle Center-Fairview cemetery.
In failing health for the past two months and critically ill for a week and a half, Marian Pratt-Benton passed away at her home near Bellefontaine Friday morning at 8:30. She was born on Oct. 7, 1904, in Oberlin, the daughter of Ernest and Nora Wellman-Pratt.
Marian Pratt became the bride of Benjamin Benton in 1922 and for a time they made their home in Springboro, Pa., before moving to the Bellefontaine neighborhood 18 years ago. She was an active member of the Chritian Science Society of Bellefontaine.
Remaining to mourn her demise are the husband; three sons, Donald Benton of Bellefontaine, Lt. Arthur Benton, en route to Yokohama and Benjamin, Jr. at home; two daughters, Mrs. Juanita Hollis and Marianne Benton, both at home; three grandchildren; and one brother, Harvey Pratt, of Oberlin.

Of Bellefontaine died March 11, in Mary Rutan Hospital, there where he had been admitted the previous day. He had been ill the past year of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease).
He was born in Geneva, October 14, 1925, a son of Benjamin Franklin and Marion Pratt-Benton.
Surviving with his wife to whom he was married on October 6, 1945 are two sons, Billy and Donnie, two daughters, Mary Christine and Madeline; his father, a sister, Marianne Benton in his home and a sister Mrs. Tom Hollis, Anna and two brothers, Arthur Lewis Benton, stationed with the U. S. Army in Washington, D. C., and Benjamin Benton, Jr., Columbus. His mother died in 1947.
Funeral services were conducted March 14, in Bellefontaine. Burial was made in the Bellefontaine Cemetery.

Obituary Benjamin Franklin Benton, Jr.
Benjamin Franklin Benton, Jr., 54, of Centerburg and formerly of Bellefontaine, died Monday, Jan 21, 1991, at 1:30 p.m. in the Centerburg Nursing Center. He died of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis disease, often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, as did a brother and sister.
Mr. Benton was born in Bellefontaine on Jan. 25, 1936, the son of the late Benjamin F. Benton, Sr., and Marian Pratt Benton.
A 1953 graduate of Rushsylvania High School and class valedictorian, he worked as a researcher for Battelle Institute in Columbus. He was a member of the Unity Church in Columbus.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin Benton of Akron and Rob Benton of Wheeler Air Force Base, Hawaii; a brother, Arthur L. Benton of Japan; a sister, Marianne Garver of Dayton; and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, Donald and a sister, Juanita Hollis Griffeth, preceded him in death also from ALS disease.
A memorial service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Bellefontaine with the Rev. Jim P. Stewart officiating. Burial Wil be in Fairview Cemetery in Belle Center.
